The medium-firm pocket spring mattress fills a specific gap in the range. The open coil orthopaedic models at Macba Beds, the Royal Ortho and the Macba Orthopaedic, provide firm support at a connected spring tension, but they do not give you the independent spring response and motion isolation that pocket sprung delivers. The medium pocket spring models, the Wilson, Pisa, Tufted 1000, and Cloud 1000, give you all of those pocket spring benefits but at a tension that some back sleepers and heavier individuals find insufficiently firm. The Uxbridge 1000 sits between these two positions: 1000 individually pocketed springs at a medium-firm tension, giving you the precision and motion isolation of pocket sprung construction with the firmer resistance that back sleepers and those who need more support than medium provides actually need.

The spring system is 1000 individually pocketed springs at a standard double size, each enclosed in its own fabric pocket and compressing independently of those around it. At medium-firm tension, each spring provides more resistance per unit of compression than the medium models in the range: the mattress holds the body higher on the sleeping surface, prevents the hips from dropping in the way that contributes to lower back strain, and maintains the natural lumbar curve of a back sleeper with greater precision than a standard medium. The independent spring action also means that the firmer support is delivered with individual body response: the Uxbridge responds differently under different areas of the body rather than applying the same firm resistance uniformly across the surface.

The motion isolation of the Uxbridge is the same fundamental benefit of the pocket sprung category that applies across all the 1000 spring models in the range. One person moving during the night disturbs the other considerably less than on any open coil mattress at the same firmness. This is significant in the medium-firm category specifically because the orthopaedic open coil options, which many back sleepers default to for their firmer support, offer no meaningful motion isolation. The Uxbridge gives back sleepers and heavier individuals the firm support they need alongside the motion isolation that a shared bed requires.

The Uxbridge 1000 is the right choice for back sleepers who want the precision of pocket sprung construction at a firmer tension. It suits heavier individuals for whom medium pocket spring mattresses do not provide sufficient resistance. It is right for couples where one partner needs firmer support than a standard medium but both want the motion isolation that pocket sprung delivers. And it is the right step for anyone currently on an open coil orthopaedic mattress who wants to move to pocket sprung without sacrificing the firmer feel. Compatible with all Macba Beds divan bases, bed frames with slat bases, and ottoman bases. Available in every standard UK size from single through to super king.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS

🔹 Medium-Firm Pocket Spring Tension

The Uxbridge 1000 is set to a medium-firm tension: firmer than the standard medium models in the 1000 spring group, with more resistance per unit of compression at the spring level. This firmer setting provides more support underfoot, holds the body higher on the sleeping surface, and prevents the hip drop that causes lower back strain in back sleepers. It is the right tension for back sleepers and heavier individuals who need more than medium but want to remain in the pocket sprung category.

🔹 1000 Individually Pocketed Springs

Each of the 1000 springs in the Uxbridge is enclosed in its own fabric pocket and compresses independently of those around it. At medium-firm tension, this individual spring action provides precise, targeted support under each area of the body rather than applying uniform resistance across the full surface. The spring responds to the actual weight and shape at each contact point, which gives the Uxbridge more nuanced support at its firmer tension than an open coil orthopaedic mattress at the same feel rating.

🔹 Spinal Alignment for Back Sleepers

The medium-firm tension of the Uxbridge is calibrated to maintain the natural lumbar curve of a back sleeper. The spring resistance prevents the hips from sinking below the line of the shoulders, keeps the spine in correct horizontal alignment, and supports the lower back area without pushing it upward into an unnatural position. Back sleepers who have found standard medium pocket spring mattresses insufficiently supportive at the lumbar area will find the Uxbridge provides the firmer resistance that maintains that alignment through the night.

🔹 Pocket Spring Motion Isolation

The individual pocket spring action significantly reduces motion transfer from one side of the bed to the other, far better than any open coil mattress at the same firmness level. For couples where one partner needs firmer support and is currently on an open coil orthopaedic, the Uxbridge provides the step up to pocket sprung motion isolation without sacrificing the firmer tension. One person moving during the night disturbs the other considerably less.

🔹 Suited to Heavier Individuals

Heavier individuals require more spring resistance to be held at the correct sleeping position on the mattress surface. On a medium pocket spring mattress, a heavier sleeper may compress the springs to a degree where the body sinks below the optimal alignment position, creating the same postural issues as sleeping on a surface that is simply too soft. The medium-firm tension of the Uxbridge provides the additional resistance that heavier individuals need to be supported correctly at their body weight.

🔹 The Pocket Spring Alternative to Open Coil Orthopaedic

Many back sleepers default to open coil orthopaedic mattresses for firm support because the firmer tension in the pocket sprung range is less commonly stocked. The Uxbridge provides the medium-firm tension that back sleepers need alongside the individual spring response and motion isolation that the open coil orthopaedic range cannot offer. It is the specific pocket sprung option for buyers who have been choosing open coil orthopaedic for the feel and would prefer pocket sprung for the performance.

🔹 Rod Edge Border Construction

The border of the Uxbridge is reinforced with a rod edge construction that keeps the sleeping surface consistent right to the edge of the mattress. No roll-off, no compression at the sides, and full usable support across the complete mattress width including the perimeter. Particularly useful for back sleepers who may sleep close to the edge of the bed or who sit on the edge to get up.

🔹 Rotatable for Even Wear

The Uxbridge should be rotated end to end regularly to distribute compression evenly across the pocket spring system and the comfort layers. Regular rotation maintains the medium-firm feel consistently across the full sleeping surface and extends the working life of the mattress. Check the individual product listing for flipping guidance.

🔹 Compatible with All Macba Beds Bases

The Uxbridge 1000 is compatible with all Macba Beds divan bases, bed frames with slat bases, and ottoman bases. Check the individual product page for electric adjustable bed compatibility before ordering for an adjustable base.

🔹 All Standard UK Sizes

Available in single, small double, double, king size, and super king. Spring count scales proportionally with mattress size to maintain the same medium-firm spring density across all sizes.

🔹 100-Day Free Trial

Sleep on the Uxbridge 1000 for up to 100 nights before making your final decision. If it is not right within that period, contact the Macba Beds team and they will take you through the next steps.

🔹 5-Year Warranty

DELIVERY & SETUP

Delivery

Free tracked delivery is included on every order to mainland UK addresses. No minimum spend, no hidden charges at checkout. You will receive a tracking reference by email as soon as your order is dispatched. The Uxbridge 1000 is delivered rolled and vacuum-packed or flat-packed depending on size. Allow the mattress to fully expand and breathe for at least two to four hours before sleeping on it. Deliveries to the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland, and some remote postcodes may take a little longer: contact the Macba Beds team before ordering if you need to confirm timescales for your area.

Setup

Place the Uxbridge 1000 on your chosen base with the labelled top surface facing upward for first use. Ensure the base is clean, flat, and undamaged before placing the mattress. On a slat frame, confirm all slats are correctly seated and evenly spaced at no more than 7cm apart: gaps wider than this can allow individual pocket springs to push through over time, which is particularly important at medium-firm tension where the spring resistance means more force is exerted at the slat contact points. On a divan base, ensure the platform top or spring top is flat and undamaged. The medium-firm feel will be fully apparent from the first night.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Rotation Schedule

Rotate the Uxbridge 1000 end to end every two to three months for the first year, then every four to six months thereafter. Regular rotation distributes compression evenly across the pocket spring system and the comfort layers, prevents body-shaped indentations from forming in one area of the sleeping surface, and maintains the medium-firm feel consistently over the life of the mattress.

Flipping

Check the individual product listing for flipping guidance specific to the Uxbridge 1000. If the listing confirms it is flippable, rotate and flip every three to four months for the best wear distribution across both surfaces.

Ventilation

Leave the mattress uncovered for at least thirty minutes when changing bedding to allow moisture to escape from the sleeping surface and the pocket spring system. The individual spring pockets allow reasonable airflow through the spring unit: regular ventilation during bedding changes keeps this effective over time.

Mattress Protector

A mattress protector is strongly recommended. It protects the sleeping surface from body oils, moisture, and soiling, maintains the mattress in warranty condition, and does not affect the medium-firm feel if a thin, breathable protector is used. A waterproof protector is recommended for households with children.

Cleaning

Do not wet the mattress or use a steam cleaner. For surface marks, spot clean with a lightly damp cloth and a small amount of mild fabric cleaner and leave to air dry completely before remaking the bed. Do not allow moisture to penetrate through the cover into the pocket spring system. Vacuum the mattress surface lightly on a low setting every few months.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: What makes the Uxbridge different from the other 1000 pocket spring mattresses?

A: The Uxbridge is set to a medium-firm tension, which is firmer than the Wilson, Pisa, Tufted 1000, and Cloud 1000. All of those are medium or medium-soft. The Uxbridge is the only medium-firm option in the 1000 pocket spring group at Macba Beds. It delivers all the same pocket spring benefits, individual spring response and motion isolation, at a tension that provides more support underfoot and better spinal alignment for back sleepers and heavier individuals.

Q: How does the Uxbridge compare to the open coil orthopaedic mattresses?

A: The open coil orthopaedic models, the Royal Ortho and Macba Orthopaedic, have a firm or medium-firm feel from a connected spring network. They provide reliable spinal support but offer no meaningful motion isolation: movement on one side of the bed is transmitted across the entire connected spring system. The Uxbridge gives you medium-firm support at the same feel position as the Clayton from a pocket spring system, which means individual spring response and significantly better motion isolation for couples. It is the right step up for anyone currently on an open coil orthopaedic who wants pocket spring performance without reducing the firmness.

Q: Is medium-firm right for back sleepers?

A: Medium-firm is the most reliable starting position for back sleepers who need more than a standard medium provides. The firmer tension prevents the hips from sinking below the line of the shoulders, keeps the lumbar region supported in its natural curve, and reduces the lower back strain that a surface that is too soft causes for back sleepers. If you have slept on a medium mattress and woken with lower back stiffness, a medium-firm like the Uxbridge is the natural step up.

Q: Is the Uxbridge suitable for heavier individuals?

A: Yes. The medium-firm tension of the Uxbridge provides more resistance per unit of compression than a standard medium, which means heavier individuals are held higher on the sleeping surface and closer to the correct alignment position. On a medium pocket spring mattress, a heavier sleeper may compress the springs further than optimal, creating the same postural issues as a mattress that is too soft for their body weight. The Uxbridge addresses this with the firmer tension.

Q: Is the Uxbridge suitable for couples?

A: Yes, particularly for couples where one or both partners need a firmer support than the medium models provide. The pocket spring motion isolation significantly reduces the disturbance one person causes the other during the night, far better than any open coil orthopaedic at the same firmness. For couples where only one partner needs a firmer feel, the other may find the Uxbridge marginally too firm: in that case, a split mattress arrangement at king or super king size with the Uxbridge on one side and a medium model on the other is the most targeted solution.

Q: How does the Uxbridge compare to the Macba Beds 2000 Pocket Sprung?

A: The Macba Beds 2000 is a medium feel at double the spring count. The Uxbridge is a medium-firm feel at 1000 springs. If you need the firmer tension that the Uxbridge provides, the 2000 at medium is not the right step up: it will give you better spring precision and motion isolation at a feel that remains medium. The Uxbridge is specifically for buyers who need the firmer feel within the pocket spring category. If you want maximum pocket spring performance at medium feel, the 2000 is the right choice.

Q: Should I rotate or flip the Uxbridge 1000?

A: Rotate regularly in all cases: end to end every two to three months for the first year, then every four to six months. For flipping, check the individual product listing. If it confirms the Uxbridge is flippable, rotate and flip every three to four months for the best wear distribution.

Q: Can I use the Uxbridge on an electric adjustable bed?

A: Pocket sprung mattresses are generally compatible with electric adjustable beds when specifically rated for adjustable use. Check the individual product page for the Uxbridge 1000 before ordering for an adjustable base. For a confirmed adjustable-compatible mattress, the Hybrid Memory Foam in the Macba Beds range is the confirmed option.

Q: What base does the Uxbridge need?

A: The Uxbridge 1000 is compatible with all Macba Beds divan bases, bed frames with slat bases, and ottoman bases. On a slat frame, ensure slats are evenly spaced at no more than 7cm apart. The medium-firm spring tension means more resistance force is exerted at slat contact points than on a standard medium mattress: check slat condition and spacing before placing the Uxbridge on a slat frame and replace any damaged slats before use.

Q: How long does delivery take and is it free?

A: Free tracked delivery is included on every order to mainland UK addresses with no minimum spend and no charges at checkout. You will receive a tracking link by email once dispatched. For remote postcodes including the Scottish Highlands and Northern Ireland, contact the Macba Beds team before ordering to confirm lead times.

Q: What is the 100-day free trial?

A: Every Uxbridge 1000 Pocket Mattress comes with a 100-day free trial from the date of delivery. Over three months to sleep on it and confirm it provides the right level of support. Medium-firm mattresses can take a short adjustment period, and the 100-day trial gives you time to move through that and make a fully informed decision. If it is not right, contact the Macba Beds team and they will guide you through the next steps.

Q: What does the 5-year warranty cover?

A: The 5-year warranty covers the pocket spring system and construction of the Uxbridge 1000 against manufacturing defects. If the spring system fails or the mattress develops a fault in materials or workmanship within five years, Macba Beds will repair or replace it. Contact the team with your order number to make a claim.

Q: Does it come with a mattress protector?

A: No. A mattress protector is sold separately and is strongly recommended to protect the sleeping surface, maintain the mattress in warranty condition, and extend the working life of the mattress.
