The Mirage Deluxe Luxury Bed Frame takes its name from what the headboard appears to do and the name is precisely chosen. A mirage is a visual phenomenon so convincing that it takes a moment to understand it is not what it appears to be. The Mirage bed frame's floating headboard effect works on exactly that principle: the headboard is clearly real, clearly substantial, clearly upholstered in premium fabric at the deluxe luxury standard but the relationship between the headboard and the frame below it reads as suspended rather than supported, as floating rather than fixed. The effect is striking precisely because it is subtle. You see it, and then you understand it, and then you appreciate what it took to create it.

The floating effect is achieved through the precise relationship between the headboard's lower edge and the recessed top of the base frame. A deliberate gap consistent across the full width of the headboard separates the two elements visually without compromising the structural integrity of either. The headboard is fully supported and correctly fixed; the visual impression is that it is not. This is the kind of design detail that belongs in the deluxe luxury category because it requires more precision to execute correctly than a standard headboard attachment the gap must be uniform, the headboard must be perfectly level, and the base must be recessed to exactly the right depth for the illusion to read correctly from every angle.

The Mirage is available in over 25 fabric and colour options. The floating effect works differently across fabric choices in darker tones the gap between headboard and frame reads with high contrast, making the floating quality most dramatic and most immediately legible. In lighter tones the effect is softer and more ethereal, the gap reading as a subtle shadow rather than a sharp line. In textured fabrics Boucle, Naples the floating effect adds a layer of material richness to the visual surprise of the suspended headboard. In every fabric the Mirage delivers the same fundamental quality: a headboard that appears to belong to the room rather than to the frame beneath it.

The frame is solid timber and engineered hardwood throughout, with the precision of construction at the headboard-to-base relationship that the floating effect requires. A full-width solid wood slat base is included as standard. Optional drawer storage is available at checkout. Every Mirage comes with a 100-day free trial and a 5-year warranty covering the frame, base, and headboard.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS

🔹 The Floating Headboard Effect The Mirage's Defining Quality

The Mirage's headboard appears to float from the wall. A precise, consistent gap between the headboard's lower edge and the recessed top of the base frame creates the visual impression of a headboard suspended in space fully supported and precisely fixed, but reading as neither. This is the specific design effect that no other bed in the Macba Beds range produces, and it is the reason the Mirage exists. A headboard that appears to float belongs to the room it is in rather than to the frame beneath it. The room looks designed. The bed looks considered. The effect is one of those quiet details that people notice and cannot quite explain why they notice it.

🔹 Precision Engineering The Gap That Creates the Illusion

The floating effect requires construction precision that a standard headboard attachment does not. The gap between the headboard's lower edge and the base frame must be uniform across the full width of the bed any variation in the gap width breaks the illusion at that point. The headboard must be perfectly level any tilt changes how the gap reads from different viewing angles. The base must be recessed to precisely the right depth too shallow and the gap reads as incidental; too deep and the structural connection becomes visible. The Mirage is manufactured to the tolerance that makes the floating effect convincing rather than approximate.

🔹 The Effect Changes With Fabric and Colour

The floating gap reads differently across the range of fabric and colour choices. In dark Plush Velvet Black, Steel, Navy the gap between the deep-toned headboard and the recessed base reads in high contrast, creating a sharp, immediately legible floating effect. The headboard appears to hover with authority. In light Plush Velvet Cream, Silver the gap reads as a soft shadow rather than a sharp line, and the floating quality feels more ethereal and weightless. In Boucle, the warm looped texture adds a sense of material invitation to the visual surprise. The fabric table in Section 4 describes the floating effect character for each option this is the most practically useful guidance for choosing the Mirage's fabric.

🔹 Deluxe Luxury Grade Precision and Finish

The Mirage carries the deluxe luxury designation because the floating effect requires both a higher standard of construction precision and a higher standard of upholstery finish than a standard headboard. The precise gap tolerances, the perfect headboard levelling, and the recessed base depth are construction requirements that only a deluxe luxury build standard can reliably deliver. The upholstery standard ensures that the headboard face reads as consistently and evenly considered as the floating effect demands any surface variation on a floating headboard is more visible precisely because the headboard is more visible.

🔹 The Mirage in the Detail-Led Beds

The Macba Beds range has several beds defined by a specific visual detail. The Cubed has black contrast piping. The Victoria has a black border frame. The Mayfair Elite has a metallic stud-line. The Palace has a sunburst headboard. The Herringbone has a panel pattern. The Mirage has a floating headboard. Among all the detail-led beds in the range, the Mirage's defining detail is the only one that is not on the headboard surface it is in the relationship between the headboard and the frame. It is a spatial detail rather than a surface detail, a visual impression rather than a tactile one, and it is more surprising than any of the others because it is only fully visible when you step back from the bed and see it properly in the room.

🔹 Height Amplifies the Illusion

The floating effect becomes more convincing and more striking as the headboard height increases. A taller headboard has more visual mass more upholstered surface, more apparent weight and the same precise gap reads as more surprising against greater mass. A 60 inch headboard that appears to float is more striking than a 40 inch one that does the same thing, because the visual expectation of support is greater for a heavier piece. The 54 and 60 inch settings are where the Mirage's illusion is most fully delivered.

🔹 25+ Fabric & Colour Options All with the Floating Effect

Over 25 options across Plush Velvet, Naples, Boucle, Linoso, and Marble the full Macba Beds range. The floating effect is delivered in every option; the character of the effect changes with the fabric and colour choice as described in the fabric table in Section 4. Darker tones for maximum floating drama. Lighter tones for a more ethereal, weightless quality. Textured fabrics for material warmth alongside the visual surprise. Fabric samples available on request.

🔹 Solid Timber Frame Precision at the Headboard-Base Junction

Solid timber and engineered hardwood throughout, with particular construction attention at the headboard-to-base relationship where the floating effect is created. The gap, the level, and the recess are all held to the tolerance that makes the illusion work and keeps it working through years of daily use not just on the day of delivery.

🔹 Solid Wood Slat Base Included

A full-width solid wood slat system is included as standard. Compatible with all standard UK mattress types pocket sprung, memory foam, and hybrid.

🔹 Optional Under-Bed Drawer Storage

🔹 Four Headboard Heights 54 and 60 Inch Recommended

DELIVERY & ASSEMBLY

Delivery

Free tracked delivery is included on every order to mainland UK addresses no minimum spend, no hidden charges. You will receive a tracking reference by email as soon as your order is dispatched. Deliveries to Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland, and some remote postcodes may take a little longer. Get in touch with the Macba Beds team before ordering if you need to confirm timescales for your area.

Assembly

The Mirage arrives flat-packed with every component clearly numbered. All fixings and an Allen key are included. The headboard arrives pre-finished and the floating gap relationship the precise distance between the headboard lower edge and the recessed base is pre-set during manufacture. The assembly process maintains this relationship: follow the numbered components and the Macba Beds assembly instructions carefully to ensure the floating gap reads correctly once the bed is complete. Most customers complete the full build in under an hour. The Macba Beds team is available by phone or email if you need assistance.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Upholstery All Fabric Ranges

Use a soft upholstery brush or vacuum on a low setting for everyday cleaning, moving in the direction of the fabric. For Plush Velvet, always work in the pile direction and restore the nap with a soft brush after cleaning. For spills, blot immediately do not rub. For marks, use a lightly damp cloth with mild upholstery cleaner and leave to air dry away from direct heat. Do not steam clean. Keep the headboard away from prolonged direct sunlight.

Maintaining the Floating Effect

The floating gap between the headboard lower edge and the recessed base must remain uniform and the headboard must remain correctly levelled for the illusion to read correctly. Check and tighten all headboard attachment fixings every few weeks, particularly during the first month any shift in the headboard's position relative to the base will affect the uniformity of the gap and change how the floating effect reads from different angles. Do not place heavy objects on the top edge of the headboard or use it as a leverage point, as sustained downward force can affect the headboard's level over time.

The Gap

The floating gap itself requires no cleaning or maintenance beyond keeping the area around the base and headboard lower edge free of dust accumulation. A soft brush along the base top and the headboard lower edge once a month keeps the gap reading cleanly. Do not attempt to adjust the gap width it is set to a precise tolerance during manufacture and any attempt to alter it risks breaking the uniformity that makes the illusion work.

Frame & Drawers

Check and tighten all base fixings regularly. If drawer runners stiffen, candle wax or dry lubricant along the track restores smooth operation.

Slat Base

Check slats periodically to ensure they are correctly seated. Even distribution gives the mattress consistent support across the full frame width.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How does the floating headboard effect actually work what creates the illusion?

A: The floating effect is created by three elements working together in precise relationship: a consistent gap between the headboard's lower edge and the top of the base frame, a perfectly level headboard, and a base frame that is recessed to precisely the right depth. The gap means the headboard and the base do not visually connect the eye reads them as separate elements, with the headboard appearing to sit above the base without contact. The headboard is fully supported and correctly fixed to the frame; the visual impression is simply that it is not. The effect is most convincing when viewed from a normal standing or seated position in the room from directly above or directly at floor level the structural connection becomes more apparent, but these are not the normal viewing positions for a bed in a bedroom.

Q: Is the floating effect purely visual or does it change anything functional about the bed?

A: Purely visual. The Mirage is structurally identical to a standard upholstered bed frame the headboard is fully and correctly attached to the frame, the base is solid and stable, and the mattress sits on a full-width slat system. The floating effect changes only how the headboard reads visually in the room. The bed is as solid, as silent, and as structurally reliable as any other bed in the range. The effect does not introduce any additional structural complexity or additional maintenance requirement beyond keeping the headboard attachment fixings tight and the gap area free of dust.

Q: Which fabric and colour makes the floating effect most striking?

A: Dark Plush Velvet Black, Steel, or Navy creates the most immediately dramatic floating effect. Against a dark background, the gap between the headboard's lower edge and the recessed base reads in high contrast, making the floating quality sharp and legible from across the room. The headboard appears to hover with genuine visual authority. For a more ethereal, weightless floating quality Cream or Silver Plush Velvet, where the gap reads as a soft luminous shadow rather than a dark line. For a warm, textural version of the floating effect Boucle Granite or Cream. The fabric table in Section 4 gives the floating effect character for every option. Fabric samples are available on request.

Q: How is the Mirage different from other detail-led beds in the range?

A: Every other detail-led bed in the Macba Beds range has its defining detail on the headboard surface the Cubed's piping, the Victoria's border, the Mayfair Elite's stud-line, the Palace's sunburst, the Herringbone's panel pattern. The Mirage's defining detail is spatial rather than surface-based it is in the relationship between the headboard and the frame, not in any element applied to the headboard face. This makes the Mirage's effect fundamentally different in kind: it is something you see in the room when you step back and look at the bed as a whole, rather than something you notice when you look at the headboard specifically. It is the only detail-led bed in the range where the detail is invisible until you are far enough away to see the whole picture.

Q: Does the gap stay consistent over time or can it change with use?

A: The gap is maintained by keeping the headboard attachment fixings tight as long as the fixings remain correctly tensioned, the headboard stays in its correct position relative to the base and the gap remains consistent. This is why the care guidance emphasises checking and tightening the headboard attachment fixings regularly, particularly during the first month. The gap itself is not adjustable and does not require any other maintenance. If you notice the gap has become uneven after the bed has been in use, check the headboard attachment fixings first in most cases this resolves the issue. If the gap inconsistency persists after tightening, contact the Macba Beds team as this may be covered under the 5-year warranty.

Q: How long does delivery take and is it actually free?

A: Yes free tracked delivery is included on every order to mainland UK addresses. No minimum spend, no extra charges at checkout. You will receive a tracking link by email once your order has been dispatched. If you are in a remote area, contact the Macba Beds team before ordering to confirm lead times for your postcode.

Q: Will this bed fit a standard UK mattress?

A: Yes. Every size of the Mirage is made to standard UK mattress dimensions. Your mattress will fit properly with no gaps or overhang. The floating effect is entirely in the headboard-base relationship and does not affect mattress compatibility.

Q: How hard is it to put together and how long does it take?

A: Most customers complete the full build in under an hour. The headboard arrives pre-finished and the floating gap relationship is pre-set during manufacture you do not need to create or adjust the floating gap on-site. Follow the numbered components and assembly instructions carefully to maintain the gap relationship during build. All fixings and an Allen key are included. The Macba Beds team is on hand if you need help.

Q: Does the bed make noise or creak?

A: Not when assembled correctly. Make sure all fixings particularly the headboard attachment points are fully tightened during the build and check again after the first couple of weeks. A loose headboard attachment may affect both the noise level and the uniformity of the floating gap.

Q: Can I get a fabric sample before I order?

A: Yes fabric samples are available on request. Because the floating effect reads differently across fabric tones dark tones for dramatic contrast, light tones for ethereal softness seeing the sample in your room and understanding how the colour will interact with the floating gap is worthwhile before committing. Contact the Macba Beds team and they will send out samples for your shortlisted choices.

Q: What is the 100-day free trial?

A: Every Mirage Deluxe Luxury Bed Frame comes with a 100-day free trial. That is over three months to sleep on it and live with the floating headboard effect in your bedroom before fully committing. If you are not satisfied within that period, contact the Macba Beds team and they will guide you through the next steps no rush, no pressure.

Q: What does the 5-year warranty cover?

A: The Mirage comes with a 5-year warranty covering the frame, base, and headboard against manufacturing defects including the precision construction elements that create the floating effect. If the gap uniformity, headboard level, upholstery finish, or any structural element develops a fault due to materials or workmanship, Macba Beds will repair or replace it. Contact the team with your order number if you need to make a claim.

Q: What is the returns policy?

A: You can return an unused, unassembled item in its original packaging within 14 days of delivery. Because the Mirage is built to your chosen fabric and colour specification, made-to-order configurations may have different return conditions the full policy is on the Macba Beds website. To start a return, contact the customer support team with your order number.

Q: Does it come with a mattress?

A: No the Mirage is sold as a bed frame only. The solid wood slat base is compatible with all standard UK mattress types including pocket sprung, memory foam, and hybrid. The Macba Beds team can help if you are unsure which to choose.
